LAHORE: The Punjab University Institute of Agricultural Sciences (IAGS) has organized one day event titled “Entrepreneurship & Agri- Business Development Ideas and Job Fair” in collaboration with Agri Tourism Development Corporation of Pakistan and SA Group.
Punjab University Pro Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar, Shoaib Afzal Malik, CEO, SA Group, Umer Farooq, Special Assistant to Chief Minister Punjab for Youth and Sports Affairs; Muhammad Ajmal Cheema, Minister for Punjab Chief Minister’s Inspection Team participated in the event.
IAGS Director Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Haider highlighted the theme of job fair and educated the students about entrepreneurship and agri business Ideas. Dr. M. Shafiq and Mr. Tariq Tanvir reflected the basic concepts and ideas of beautification of the environment and also how business can be started. It was also proposed to discuss their current transformation, modification and developments.
More than 40 agri business industries displayed their stalls and got chances to meet agriculture students. A job fair was also a part of the event so that agriculture industry should have the chance to meet students who are job searcher in innovative agri-business ideas. More than 400 jobs were offered by the different companies to IAGS graduates.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar presented shields to the guests and certificates to the participants. He also appreciated the efforts of Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Haider, Director, Institute of Agricultural Sciences.
Meanwhile, Vice Chancellor University of Okara (UO), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Zakria Zakar has said that the 12,000 students, currently enrolled in the University of Okara, will become torchbearers of the social change in the entire region.
While addressing to the orientation session of the students admitted in the Fall Session on Friday, Dr. Muhammad Zakria Zakar was of the view that the university education does not only change a person’s life but revitalizes a family and the society at large.
“Education empowers people. This region is engulfed in certain vibes like violence against women and children, child labor, child abuse, early marriages, overpopulation, drugs and street crimes. If we engage the youth in education and co-curricular activities, these menaces are likely to perish and the society will witness a positive change”, he said.
He further told that the UO has very conducive environment for the female students whose ratio is seventy percent and these empowered females will fight against the vibes like early marriages, female mortality, violence and overpopulation.
According to the university spokesperson, the UO got 6,000 students during the Fall admissions. There are currently 83 degree programs being offered here in 39 specialized departments.
The orientation session was meant to welcome the new students and appraise them of the university rules and regulations besides providing them career counseling. The departments which took part in the session included Department of Communication Studies, Department of Sociology, Department of Phycology, Department of Fine Arts, Department of Urdu, Department of Mathematics, Department of Statistic, Department of Economics, Department of Management Sciences, Department of English, Department of Botany, Department of Computer Science, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Education, Department of Islamic Studies and Faculty of Science.
All in-charges of the academic and administrative departments attended the session. The Additional Registrar General Jamil Asim, Additonal Registrar Kashif Mehmood Saqib, Assistant Director Library Kashif Mehmood Saqib, Director Administration & Academics Waqar Ahmed Sheikh, Director Environmental Health & Safety Dr. Shafiq-ur-Rehman, Director IT Dr. Khursheed Ashgar, Director External Linkages Dr. Syed Abudul Waheed, Additional Treasurer Dr. Muhammad Wajid and Resident Officer General Dr. Shehzad Ahmed appraised the students about the university rules and the facilities and opportunities available to them at the campus.
