WASHINGTON: US Vice President Kamala Harris faced interruptions from protesters opposing US support for Israel’s offensive in Gaza, which has killed tens of thousands and triggered a humanitarian crisis, US media reported.

Harris, who is a presidential candidate in the upcoming November elections, reiterated her support for a ceasefire and a hostage rescue deal during her speech in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

“Now is the time to secure a hostage deal and a ceasefire,” Harris said, before being interrupted. “I respect your voice, but right now, I am speaking,” she added.

Harris has pledged her continued support for Israel. However, observers note that if pro-Palestinian Americans, including activists, as well as Muslims and Arabs—who overwhelmingly voted for Democrats in the last presidential election—withhold their votes, it could impact Harris’s chances.

While these groups are unlikely to shift toward Donald Trump, some activists have pledged their support to third-party candidates.
