KARACHI: In a move aimed at improving road safety and traffic flow, Karachi traffic police have begun issuing electronic challans (e-challans) to motorists violating lane discipline on Shahrah-e-Faisal, one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares. The enforcement measure comes into effect immediately.
As per the spokesperson of traffic police, motorists violating lane discipline on the city’s main artery will be issued e-challans.
The traffic police urged citizens to strictly follow lane discipline while driving.
“All vehicles should remain in their designated lanes,” the spokesperson said, adding that motorcycles, buses and cars must also comply with lane rules.
Authorities launched a public awareness campaign before enforcing the new measure to educate citizens about the importance of lane discipline. Traffic officials emphasized that drivers also have a responsibility to follow traffic regulations and contribute to safer roads.
For now, the e-challan system applies only to Shahrah-e-Faisal. However, traffic authorities plan to expand the initiative to other major roads and highways across Karachi in the future.
Officials believe that stricter enforcement of lane regulations will not only improve traffic flow but also help prevent accidents, making daily travel safer and more efficient for commuters throughout the city.
