KARACHI: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) Tuesday gave the K-Electric (KE) go-ahead to increase the power tariff by Rs5.28 per unit for the residents of the metropolis on account of fuel charges adjustment (FCA) for April, 2022.
The FCA for April, 2022 will be charged with the bill of June 2022, which will be paid by all consumer categories except lifeline consumers.
KE had initially requested the regulator to charge an FCA of Rs5.30 per unit but after a hearing today, NEPRA asked the utility company to charge Rs5.28 as FCA.
The Rs5.28 increase will put a burden of approximately Rs11.92 billion on consumers, including GST. However, it is worth mentioning that the written order and notification will be issued later in this regard.
The power supply company has also requested for the Rs3.89 per unit increase on account of quarterly fuel charges adjustment; however, final decision in this regard will be issued later.
A day earlier, the regulatory authority had increased the power tariff by Rs3.99 per unit on account of FCA for April 2022 amid worsening power outages across the country.
According to a notification issued in this regard, the FCA for April 2022 will be charged with the bill of June 2022, which will be paid by all consumer categories of all 10 distribution companies, except for lifeline and K-Electric consumers.
The Rs3.99 increase will put a burden of around Rs58.5 billion on consumers, including GST
