GILGIT: Karakorum International University (KIU) paid tribute to the Chinese workers and engineers who sacrificed their lives during the construction of the Karakorum Highway (KKH), marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China, APP reported.
The university’s China Study Center, Confucius Institute, and International Office jointly organized a commemorative ceremony at the historic Chinese Cemetery (China Memorial) in Danyoor, Gilgit. The event aimed to honor the invaluable sacrifices of those Chinese workers and engineers who laid the foundation of the iconic Karakorum Highway through their dedication and ultimate sacrifice.
The ceremony was attended by a large number of students, faculty members and university officials. Participants carried the national flags of Pakistan and China, symbolizing the deep-rooted friendship, unity, and brotherhood between the two nations.
Director of the International Office Dr Sajjad Haider, along with other KIU officials, paid glowing tribute to the Chinese martyrs. They emphasised that the enduring sacrifices of these individuals have cemented strong and lasting friendships between Pakistan and China, which continue to grow stronger over time.
The speakers also reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening academic, cultural, and people-to-people exchanges between the two countries.
