PESHAWAR: The Deputy Speaker, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly Mahmood Jan on Friday narrowly escaped an armed attack on his life in the provincial capital, Peshawar.
Mahmood Jan was attending a ceremony in Shagai area when some armed men barged into a Hujra where he was present and opened firing. He, however, managed to survive the attack and remained unhurt.
Peshawar Police Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations Kashif Abbasi said a police contingent was dispatched to the crime scene.
It was too early to confirm the incident was the result of Mahmood Jan’s family’s land dispute, said police.
He said efforts were under way to arrest the suspects.
