Lahore Qalandars fines Shaheen Shah Afridi Rs1 million after hotel security breach

Lahore Qalandars, the reigning champions of the Pakistan Super League, have fined their captain Shaheen Shah Afridi Rs 1 million after a security lapse allowed an unauthorised individual to enter the team’s hotel room designated for players.

The franchise confirmed the decision after conducting an internal investigation into the incident.

Franchise terms incident ‘misunderstanding’

According to a statement issued by the Qalandars, the matter was thoroughly examined internally and was found to be a misunderstanding rather than a deliberate violation.

The franchise also informed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of its decision after completing the inquiry, while noting that some media reports had exaggerated the incident and presented it contrary to the facts.

Officials revealed that Shaheen had allowed guests of teammate Sikandar Raza to enter the players’ room despite security staff denying permission.

The franchise emphasised that the action was taken in the spirit of accountability and discipline, reaffirming its commitment to respecting all security protocols.

On-field challenges

The fine comes amid a mixed start for the Shaheen-led side in the ongoing Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 11.

Currently sitting second on the points table with two points from two matches, the Qalandars opened their campaign with a win over Hyderabad Kingsmen on March 26 before suffering a four-wicket defeat to Karachi Kings on Sunday.

During the match against Karachi, the franchise was also penalised with a five-run penalty for allegedly altering the condition of the ball.

Batter Fakhar Zaman was charged with a Level 3 offence under Article 2.14 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel for breaching Article 41.3 of the playing conditions, which prohibits any action that changes the state of the ball.
