Lasting peace in South Asia impossible without Kashmir resolution: APHC

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has said that lasting peace, stability and development in South Asia remains unattainable without a resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

As per the Kashmir Media Service, illegally detained APHC Chairman Masarrat Aalam Butt, in a message from New Delhi’s infamous Tihar Jail, urged India to abandon its policy of holding Jammu and Kashmir through military force and to honor its commitment to grant the Kashmiris their right to self-determination.

He said the unresolved dispute has subjected Kashmiris to prolonged suffering continues to fuel tensions between Pakistan and India. He described India’s intransigence as the biggest obstacle to a peaceful settlement and called upon the United Nations to press for implementation of its resolutions on Kashmir.

In various sites, local residents, including women and children, have reportedly faced harassment and intimidation during the raids.

In the Kashmir Valley, eight hundred and two doctors’ posts and thirteen thousand government school teaching positions remain vacant, most of them in remote rural areas, severely affecting healthcare delivery and education.
