ISLAMABAD: The foreign and local staff working at Neelum Jehlum Dam have been evacuated and moved to secure vicinities in Azad Kashmir after indiscriminate and unprovoked firing and heavy shelling by Indian forces along the Line of Control’s (LoC) in Nousehri sector.
Nine Indian soldiers were killed and several others injured when Pakistan Army responded to India’s unprovoked ceasefire violations in Jura, Shahkot and Nousehri Sectors along LoC in Azad Kashmir, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of Pakistan’s armed forces claimed on Sunday October 20.
A senior official dealing with 969 MW Neelum Jehlum Hydro Power (NJHP) project, also tagged Nousehri Dam, told The News Today that foreseeing the current tense situation along Line of Control it was decided to move all officers and foreign engineers including Chinese working on Dam site to secure vicinities in Azad Kashmir.

The Dam is located in Nousehri sector, near LoC. Indian and Pakistani forces had exchange of heavy firing and shelling in the area yesterday.

On July 29, 2019, during the unprovoked shelling on same sectors along LoC, one mortar shell had landed very near to dam, another few yards away from the spillways while five had struck a landslide across the dam, causing no damage to any structure, Badar Munir, deputy commissioner of Muzaffarabad had informed this scribe.
