LAHORE: Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan has sworn in as the new Speaker of Punjab Assembly as he took the oath of office administered by outgoing Speaker Sabtain Khan.
The Punjab Assembly concluded the counting process for the election of the Speaker. Malik Ahmad Khan, representing the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), emerged victorious as the newly elected Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, securing a significant mandate from the assembly members.
The PML-N further solidified its control over the Punjab Assembly with the successful election of Malik Zaheer Iqbal Chand as Deputy Speaker after Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan sworn in as Speaker.
Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan’s victory, securing 224 votes against his opponent’s 96, marked a significant moment for the party. He subsequently took the oath of office, officially assuming the role of Speaker.
A total of 323 members cast their votes for the Deputy Speaker, with none being rejected. Ultimately, Malik Zaheer Iqbal Chand secured an overwhelming majority of 220 votes, solidifying his position as the Deputy Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. Conversely, Moin Riaz, the candidate of the Sunni Ittehad Council, received 103 votes.
