Maritime Archaeology needs attention: Dr Athar

BAHAWALPUR: Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) is the custodian of rich culture of region. In this regard Vice Chancellor Engr. Prof. Dr. Athar Mehboob. initiated the Culture and Hertiage research centre to cope with the challenges.

This team unearthed one of the Hakran site last year in the patronage of Dean faculty of natural Sciences Prof. Dr Shazia Anjum.

Still there are many gaps to fill in the research of Hakra River’s remains and habitat.

Field of archaeology in Pakistan is less developed and the discipline is not flourished upto the mark through Punjab. The maritime archaeology super-a-speciality of the subject is missing and there is scarcity in this field.

To bridge the gap Culture & Heritage Research centre tram Muhmmad Waqar Mushtaq & Moazzam Khan Durrani arranged zoom meeting with MAHI (Maritime Archaeology Heritage institute) Hibba Hashmi & Amer Bazel Khan.

Both the institute chalk out areas of common interest and agreed to ink MOU in near future.

IUB team extend invitation to MAHI team to visit south Punjab and explore Hakra River bed and Indus Queen.

MAHI team offered capacity building training to faculty and students in the field of Maritime Archaeology tentatively they arranging by the month of January.

Team IUB asked MAHI team to arrange Online Lecture to spread awareness among the new students of Archaeology and anthropology about maritime archaeology and Heritage.

In this way both the institutions will work together to preserve and present the hidden treasure of the region specifically hakra valley Civilization and old Trade Route through Indus River.

The cultural remains of the region is not only identity but also carrying the legacy to be unearthed and unveiled.

Preservation, presentation, publication of this historical rich region is necessary and need attention of academia and researchers.
