‘Marriage Officers’ for Jammu, Kashmir regions appointed

JAMMU: Jammu Kashmir Government appointed two ‘Marriage Officers’ for Kashmir and Jammu regions for the purposes of Special Marriage Act, 1954.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 3 of the Special Marriage Act, 1954, the Lieutenant Governor is pleased to appoint these officers as ‘Marriage Officer’ within the territorial jurisdiction specified for the purposes of the said Act,” read a notification issued by Law Secretary Achal Sethi.

As per the notification, Assistant Commissioner (General) in the office of Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar will be the ‘Marriage Officer’ within the territorial jurisdiction of “whole of Kashmir division.”

Similarly Assistant Commissioner (General) in the office of Deputy Commissioner, Jammu will be the ‘Marriage Officer’ in Jammu division. His territorial jurisdiction will be “whole of Jammu division”, the notification specified.
