KARACHI: Moin Khan expressed hope of Pakistan;s victory in Australia saying “Pakistan can change the history of the country’s results down-under in the Test matches”.
Talking to media former captain and ex- coach of Pakistan Cricket Team Moin Khan has extended his support to Pakistani team ahead of the team’s two-match Test series against Australia.
“It is difficult, but not impossible to beat Australia at its home,” former wicketkeeper Moin Khan said, adding that Pakistan is capable to beat Australia in two match series.
Pakistan has never been able to win a Test series in Australia and they’re declared underdogs even for the series which starts on Thursday.
“Players shouldn’t take previous records as something negative, instead they should take it as a challenge, a challenge to change the history. If India can beat Australia in Australia, then why can’t Pakistan,” Moin said.
“If they can defeat Australia this time then they’ll be remembered as heroes forever,” Moin noted.
He added that Pakistan’s bowling attack of Shaheen Shah Afridi, Imran Khan Sr and Naseem Shah can be lethal in Australian conditions.
“It is important to take 20 wickets in a Test and I think our bowling attack is capable of doing it,” he said.
The member of 1992 world cup winning squad said that Pakistani players should take motivation from the team’s 1992 win, when no one even considered the young Pakistan team in the event but the players went against the odds and lifted the world title.
“Leadership would be very important, like it was in 1992,” Moin said.
He once again condemned the way Sarfaraz Ahmed was removed as Pakistan’s captain from T20s and Test sides.
“It was not an honorable way to treat a cricketer. Misbah should have taken a stand against the ill-treatment of team’s captain,” Moin said.
“I think Sarfaraz is a fighter and the day he regains his form, no one will be able to stop him from coming back,” said the former captain.
Replying to a question, Moin said criticised Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for revoking players’ NOC for the ongoing T10 league.
“The league is being conducted under the UAE board, if we have issues with India then ban should be on the IPL. I don’t think it was right to revoke NOC of players for T10 league, this can dent PCB’s relations with UAE cricket board as well,” Moin highlighted. By Our Correspondent
