LAHORE: The monsoon fury persists across Pakistan, with heavy rainfall inundating several parts of Lahore. While the rain somewhat alleviated the oppressive humidity, it also disrupted traffic on the roads.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), light to moderate rain was reported in areas such as Canal Road, The Mall, Davies Road, Lakshmi Chowk, and surrounding regions.
Weather experts had forecast monsoon rains from August 18 to August 25 across the country.
Last week’s rain in Punjab led to casualties when three laborers were killed and one injured after the roof of a room collapsed in Faisalabad. The injured laborer is currently being treated at Allied Hospital.
Overall, 84 people have lost their lives, and 224 others have been injured in rain-related incidents in Punjab. Additionally, 84 houses have been damaged.
A few days ago, several low-lying areas in Lahore turned into waterlogged puddles as rain lashed the city extensively.
PUNJAB
Rains continue to disrupt daily life in Koh-e-Suleman, South Punjab. Low-level floods in the mountainous region have caused significant inconvenience to residents, and a 20-foot sinkhole has formed after downpours in the Uch canal, Ahmedpur East.
The water level in Head Trimmu continues to rise due to the ongoing rains.
SINDH
A 290-millimeter rainfall in Sukkur reportedly broke a 77-year-old record, flooding nearby low-lying areas. Similarly, continuous rains in Larkana, Qaziabad, and Jacobabad have wreaked havoc across several regions.
Karachi experienced prolonged downpours, leaving residents to fend for themselves amid the challenges posed by accumulated rainwater.
GILGIT-BALTISTAN
Landslides in Gojal, Hunza, Astore, and Ghizer destroyed 20 houses and left many tourists stranded. Many roads were closed to traffic due to heavy rains and pluvial floods.
BALOCHISTAN
The National Highway N-40 remains closed to traffic after two days, while the districts of Kohlu, Awaran, and Bolan received intense showers, inundating low-lying areas and making life miserable for residents.
