A Muslim citizen has been identified as the man who courageously confronted an armed attacker during a deadly shooting on an Australian beach.
The individual, 43-year-old Ahmed Al-Ahmed, is a Sydney-based fruit vendor and a father of two. During the violent incident, Ahmed intervened without hesitation, physically restraining the attacker and successfully seizing the rifle in an effort to prevent further harm.
While overpowering the gunman, Ahmed was shot twice in the arm. He was rushed to hospital for treatment, where doctors have since confirmed that his condition is stable and that he is out of danger.
The shooting took place in Sydney during a Jewish religious festival, where at least 12 people were killed and 29 others injured, including two police officers. According to Sydney police, one attacker was killed during a counter-operation, while another was arrested in critical condition.
Authorities have declared the incident an act of terrorism and continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attack.
