NEPRA increases power tariff by Rs3.10 per unit

ISLAMABAD: Already overburdened by inflation, Pakistanis were in for a shock when the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Saturday decided to increase the power tariff by Rs3.10 under monthly fuel adjustment.

The Government’s decision to rise in power tariffby Rs3.10 on account of fuel cost adjustment (FCA) for the month of December 2021, will place an additional burden of Rs30 billion on the power consumers.

The decision will place an additional burden of Rs30 billion on the power consumers. More than 8.5 billion units of electricity were used in December last year, said the notification.

According to an order the increase in electricity prices will not apply to K-Electric customers. The price hike will apply on February bills, the NEPRA said.

The hike in the power tariff will burden the power consumers with additional billions of rupees. The NEPRA had already completed the hearing for the fuel price adjustment for the month of December 2021 and the decision of which has been issued today.
