Novel Coronavirus took death toll to 55; confirmed infections cross 4,004

ISLAMABAD: Novel Coronavirus epidemic so far claimed 55 lives after new fatalities were confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Punjab provinces, while the number of confirmed COVID-19 infection cases jumped to 4,004 Tuesday after new infections were confirmed in the country.

After confirmed cases getting increased rapidly in Punjab, nation-wide coronavirus tally shot up from 3,469 on Monday morning to 4,004 on Tuesday morning.

The province-wise break up of coronavirus infections given by the National Health Authorities Coronavirus dashboard at 01:12pm, April 7 Tuesday, is as total number of confirmed infections was 4,004, with Punjab still on top of the table with 2,004, followed by Sindh 986, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 500, Gilgit-Baltistan 211, Balochistan 202, Islamabad Capital Territory 83 and AJK 18.

According to province-wise break up the death toll jumped to 54 confirmed by National Health authorities at 01:12pm, April 7, Tuesday, Sindh 18, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have 17 deaths each, Punjab 15, Gilgit-Baltistan 3, Islamabad Capital Territory 1 and Balochistan 1.

Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Education and Labour Saeed Ghani on Tuesday hailed the services of a doctor who passed away on Monday evening due to complications arising as a result of the coronavirus.

“Dr A Qadir Soomro is addition in list of heroes in recent pandemic war. He served the patients without fear. But at same time these frontline soldiers while performing their duties take extra care. We’ll try to provide protective gears to all medics,” he wrote on Twitter.

The Civil Defense on Tuesday started production of masks and protective equipment aimed at safeguarding individuals from the novel coronavirus. “We are in the process of making 20,000 masks and 10,000 personal protective equipment,” a director at Civil Defense told the media on Tuesday morning.

Young doctors in Quetta on Tuesday morning boycotted all services in government hospitals to register their protest against the arrests and beatings meted out to their colleagues after they demanded the government provide them with protective equipment as they dealt with cases of the novel coronavirus in the province.

Doctors and paramedics remained absent from the accidents ward, the trauma center, and private wards of the government hospitals. However, some doctors were still present in the labour rooms and cardiology units of government hospitals as the young doctors protested.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while another 10 patients have been added to previously reported data, according to provincial health and finance minister Taimur Khan Jhagra, taking the total in KP to 500.

Taking to Twitter, he said that out of the 500 people that have tested positive for the disease, 138 are hospitalized. He added that 69 people have recovered from the disease in the province so far. One death has been added to yesterday’s tally to take the total tally of deaths to 17.

Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) on Tuesday recorded its first death from the coronavirus. The patient who passed away had been under treatment at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.
