ISLAMABAD: A conference titled “Media as Soft Power in 21st Century” will be held in National University of Modern Languages (NUML) from October 10.
Organized by the Department of Mass Communication, the two- day event will have 12 sessions. Around 300 academics and media professionals across country, would interact with more than 1200 students during the moot.
The speakers at the conference will share their ideas on the subject and interact with students on essential components of Mass Communication.
They would be delivering lecturers in the auditoriums so that maximum students can participate and learn from their research and field work.
Media practitioners would explain students about new opportunities in field of mass communication.
Media industry in many countries including Pakistan have been going through challenging times.
Advertising revenues of media outlets, especially newspapers have been falling. Conventional media in Pakistan has been going worst crisis of its history for over a year now and there has been no let-up in the tough conditions.
At the same time, technology has also provided media practitioners new avenues for media practitioners.
“The conference is more than media’s relation with public and politics. It is also about research (in the field) as whole” said Ali Bahadur, a faculty member of university’s mass communication department.
He said the researchers are making new discoveries in the field and importance of mass media in the contemporary world.
The next week’s conference will help organize more such seminars and conferences to keep the students updated on challenges and opportunities the field, he added.

Looking forward to make their event successful, students said they want to make it an opportunity to participate, engage and collaborate.
The interactive sessions would help students decide for themselves which genre they may adopt once they complete their degrees.
The university has invited Special Assistant to the Prime Minister for information and broadcasting, Firdous Ashiq Awan to be the chief guest.
