Tragic incidents marred the celebrations of Basant in Lahore, as one young man lost his life and six others, including children, were injured in separate kite-flying accidents, according to rescue officials.
Twenty-five-year-old Ali Rashid Kati lost his life after climbing an electric pole near the Sikh Canal to fly a kite and suffered electrocution. Rescue officials have handed over his body to his family.
Among the injured, three were children: a child in Gulshan-e-Ravi was hurt after a kite string got caught around his neck, while another fell from a roof in the Ravi Road area.
Twelve-year-old Abdul Wahid sustained injuries while flying a kite in Lower Mall, and 14-year-old Salman was injured in Gulshan-e-Ravi.
Separate incidents include a 45-year-old man, Shabbir, who was injured after a kite string snapped in Gulshan-e-Ravi, and a young man was hurt in Defence Phase 5 when a string broke, with rescue efforts underway.
Officials have reminded citizens to follow safety guidelines during Basant to prevent accidents.
