ISLAMABAD: Ongoing lockdown prevalent in the country will continue for next two weeks as the government wanted to further contain the spread of the coronavirus in the country, said Prime Minister Imran Khan here on Tuesday.
The announcement was made by the premier speaking of the government’s response to the coronavirus so far. He announced that certain industries such as construction will be opened, beginning tomorrow (Wednesday).
He said: “Owing to the restrictions we imposed, the way the virus should have spread, it did not. It only spread to an extent of 30% when compared to our projections.”
PM Imran said the projections were based on trends observed worldwide.
Prime Minister Imran Khan said that he will consult ulema from different schools of thought to decide on how to ensure people are able to pray during the holy month of Ramazan and also stay safe from the coronavirus.
The prime minister announced that the government was about to introduce a ‘very strict’ ordinance in the next few days which will hand out exemplary punishments to wheat smugglers and hoarders of basic food items.
