ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday launched the PakSat MM1 communication satellite—a joint venture between SUPARCO and the Chinese Aerospace Industry—from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
Acting Chairman of SUPARCO Zafar Iqbal stated that this is the second communication satellite, following the first one launched in 2011. The MM1 satellite was launched into Earth’s orbit at 5:15 PM.
The satellite was developed to meet the communication requirements of the country.
“The importance of space is increasing. iCube Qamar was launched in the same month, and 2 days ago we celebrated Takbeer Day. It is hoped that the observation satellite will be launched later this year,” Zafar Iqbal said.
Satellite Benefits: The satellite will ensure high-speed internet coverage across Pakistan and enhance the country’s communication system and communication links.
“E-commerce will be improved, and it will also help to increase telemedicine and e-governance,” he said.
The Pakistan Space-Based Augmentation payload is also on the MM1 satellite. Reliable positioning and navigation transboundary facilities can be provided.
Pakistan will become the 11th country to provide these services.
The Institute of Space Technology arranged a live telecast of the launch at the IST auditorium.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended his congratulations to the Pakistani nation for the historic success of the PakSat MM1 communication satellite launch—a joint venture between SUPARCO and the Chinese Aerospace Industry—from China’s Xichang Satellite Launch Center.
