Pakistan reports 14 coronavirus deaths, 615 new cases

ISLAMABAD: With the recent increase of coronavirus infections in the country, another 14 people has died in during the past 24 hours (Tuesday), raising the death toll in Pakistan to 6,601.

The latest figures released by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) on Wednesday shows that six people each died in Sindh and Punjab while the remaining two deaths were reported from Azad Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the virus was found in 615 people during the same period. The overall number of coronavirus cases in the country has now reached to 320,463.

According to NCOC data, Sindh has been worst affected by the pandemic with 140,756 cases, while Punjab has suffered 101,014, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 38,427, Islamabad 17,526, Balochistan 15,577, Gilgit-Baltistan 3,965 and Azad Kashmir 3,198 Covid related infections.

During the past 24 hours, 471 coronavirus patients has recovered from the disease. The total number of people fully recovering from the infection either due to the treatment at health facilities or being kept in isolation has now increased to 305,080.

The above mentioned stats means that the number of closed cases [deaths + number of those recovering from infection] currently stands at 311,681.

Unfortunately, there are still 8,782 active cases in Pakistan, the majority of which have been isolated at their homes and other places with 853 of them being treated in hospitals.

Moreover, 518 of those who have been hospitalized are in intensive care units of the different hospitals due to their critical condition. While 81 of these critically ill patients are currently placed on ventilators.

NCOC statistics reveals that on Tuesday, 28,916 tests were conducted in the country as part of the ongoing efforts to identify, trace and isolate the infected persons to stop further spread.

The overall number of tests conducted since the coronavirus pandemic outbreak in the country has reached to 3,943,734. (With input from INP)
