Meanwhile, the World Bank is closely monitoring the situation in Pakistan. Sources within the institution confirmed that consultations were ongoing regarding potential recovery measures for flood-affected communities. A detailed assessment of needs is currently under way.

Once the review is complete, appropriate steps will be considered based on the findings. The World Bank has continued to examine the ongoing situation carefully.

It is pertinent to note that Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal has chaired a meeting, which was also attended by the Federal Finance Minister and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

According to Ahsan Iqbal, an initial assessment of flood damage will be completed within ten days. He added that a final estimate would only be possible once floodwaters have fully receded.

The meeting included a detailed review of the damage caused by the 2025 floods. Provincial governments agreed that a conclusive assessment could only be made once the water had subsided.

Iqbal said that the damage estimate would be prepared in coordination with provincial authorities. He said that recovery efforts were under way in affected areas, with federal and provincial agencies working jointly on relief operations.

He said that, as in 2022, the assessment of losses and needs following natural disasters would include input from international institutions. The planning minister added that all relief measures in affected regions would be based on accurate and transparent data.

Ahsan Iqbal highlighted climate change as a major challenge for Pakistan. He said that both floods and droughts were direct impacts of climate change. He said that India politicised the situation during the natural disaster.
