ISLAMABAD: Pakistan witnessed 39 new deaths by coronavirus epidemic during last 24 hours that took the toll to 873. With 1,352 new infections confirmed taking the tally to 40,151.
The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), has confirmed that 1,352 new infections of the COVID-19 in last 24 hours and 31 new fatalities reported taking the tally ot 873. Sindh remains as worst-hit province by the pandemic with 15,590, highest number of infections, followed by Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
So far 373,410 coronavirus tests were conducted round the country and 14,175 in last 24 hours. 11,341 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas many are in critical condition. Patients are under treatment at quarantine centers of 462 hospitals where 7,295 beds are available.
As per the latest figure given on National Coronavirus Dashboard of NCOC on May 17, Sunday 10:45am, in its province-wise break up after confirming the toll of 40,151 infections. Sindh crossed the 15,590 toll of coronavirus cases followed by Punjab with 14,584 infections of coronavirus pandemic. The infections confirmed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have reached to 5,847, in Balochistan toll surged to figure of confirmed cases 2,544, 527 was figure in Gilgit-Baltistan, 947 in Islamabad Capital Territory and 112 in Azad Jammu Kashmir.
The figure given by Coronavirus Dashboard in its province-wise break up regarding the 873 total deaths reported in the country after 39 new fatalities. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is on top of the fatalities list with 305 deaths while Sindh at number 2 with 268 deaths, Punjab stands with 252 fatalities, Balochistan 36, Gilgit-Baltisan 4, Islamabad Capital Territory 7 and AJK 1.
Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat has directed officials to prepare SOPs for the last Friday prayers for Ramadan and Eid prayers in the province.
The directions came during a meeting chaired by Basharat to review the situation emerging in the province due to the coronavirus. The meeting was also attended by provincial minister for industries Mian Aslam Iqbal, Punjab Chief Secretary Jawad Rafiq and IG Punjab police.
Officials have recorded more than 4.5 million cases and more than 306,000 deaths since the virus emerged in China in December.
