Pakistani diplomat comes under attack in Afghanistan

KABUL: Pakistani diplomat was attacked when some unidentified miscreants on Friday opened firing on the official of Pakistan’s embassy in Afghanistan.

The Charge d’ Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Ambassador Ubaid Nizamani, was targeted by an assassination attempt by armed assailants in Kabul.

According to details, multiple shots were fired at the diplomat while he was walking in the grounds of the Pakistan Embassy compound in Kabul.

It was further informed by the sources that three shots were fired at the Pakistani Chargé d affaires’s guard but the top diplomat escaped unhurt, while a protection officer sustained bullet injuries.

According to diplomatic sources, initial investigation of the Taliban suggest that the shots were fired from a nearby building.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the assassination attempt on Pakistan’s Head of Mission in Afghanistan’s capital Kabul and ordered immediate inquiry into the incident.

“I strongly condemn dastardly assassination attempt on Head of Mission, Kabul,” he said in a tweet. “I demand immediate investigation and action against perpetrators of this heinous act”.

The prime minister lauded the bravery of the security guard who received bullet wounds while saving the life of the Head of Mission. “Salute to brave security guard, who took bullet to save his [Head of Mission] life,” he said and prayed for his swift recovery.
