PEMRA issues notice to T.V channels on airing ‘Controversial’ commercial

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) has issued notice to T.V channels after biscuits advertisement featuring Mehwish Hayat’s dance sparked controversy on social media.

After receiving public complaints against this commercial, today PEMRA has served notice and advised T.V channels to review the content of advertisements specifically this TVC.

Country media regulator has further advised all stakeholders to stop the rampant use of themes and content which are not corresponding with the nature of the product.

Earlier, many of the social media users has criticized this advertisement calling it immoral, obscene and against our religious and cultural values.

While some of the factions of society has supported it saying that there is no such thing which is undermining our Islamic and social values.

This debate has generated on Friday, when senior journalist Ansar Abbasi tweeted asking PM Imran Khan and PEMRA to take notice of this advertisement.

Federal Minister Ali Muhammad Khan also supported the Ansar Abbasi’s stance.

Then in respone, Federal Minister Ch Fawad Hussain tweeted saying that why Ansar and Ali keep on searching obscenity 24/7.

This issue was very hotly debate among every segment of society from journalists to politicians and remained in top trends on Twitter with #galabiscuit and counter trend #apnydeskaharranghayawala.
