Peshawar Madrassa Explosion: Eight killed, over 100 injured in Dir Colony blast

PESHAWAR: At least eight persons were killed and more than 100 others injured in an explosion occurred in a mardassa (seminary) in Dir Colony of Peshawar, the provincial capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday. More casualties are expected as many injured are in critical condition.
Teams of Rescue 1122, security personnel and other teams have arrived at the scene and launched a rescue operation to shift the injured to nearby hospitals for medical assistance.
Injured mostly children were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital (LRH) and Naseerullah Baber Hospital.
The doctors in the LRH told that some seven dead and 70 injured were brought to hospital and many are in critical condition. 36 injured were shifted to Naseerullah Baber Hospital
Hospital officials confirmed the killing of seven person, “Most of those killed and injured were hit by the ball bearings and some were badly burnt,” said hospital official
According to resuce officials, an explosive device concealed in a bag was a time device and detonated in a madrassa in Dir Colony on Tuesday.
According to reports there were about 1,000 children in the seminary at the time of the blast. Majority of the victims are children and instructors as the blast took place during classes at Madrassa.
Police officials revealed, adding that around 40-50 children were present inside the madrassa when the bomb went off. Police officials said that the nature of the explosion is being ascertained.
