RAWALPINDI: The Central Working Committee of the Pakistan Ex-Servicemen Society (PESS) has expressed profound displeasure over the misuse of Twitter Handle and Facebook page of the PESS by an unauthorized, convicted and ousted major ex member.
The meeting held under the chairmanship of Lt Gen Abdul Qayyum, President PESS. In his opening remarks President PESS and CWC members expressed displeasure over the misuse of Twitter Handle and Facebook page of PESS by an unauthorised, convicted and ousted major ex member of the PESS.
All CWC members unanimously condemned the inappropriate and unfounded allegations levelled against military leadership by some unscrupulous persons. Suspension of Twitter Handle of the PESS also came under discussion for the activation of which necessary actions were being taken.
The CWC showed their firm resolve to preserve the image of the institution of Armed Forces at all cost. Fleet CPO Tahir being the oldest member since 1996, apprised the members about the history of PESS and how it developed.
Key agenda item of the day was a presentation by Commodore Arshad M Khan, Secretary General PESS, on the “short, mid and long-term objectives of the PESS”.
Salient priority areas included transforming PESS into a vibrant and well-knitted entity, closer networking with Service HQ for institutional patronage and outreach/support to needy pensioners, families of martyrs and disabled and mentally retarded ex-servicemen.
Vice Admiral Abdul Aleem Senior Vice President PESS highlighted the importance of making PESS financially self-sustaining. He also flagged the need of having a vibrant PESS Media Cell.
All CWC members appreciated the content of the presentation and unanimously emphasized the need to collectively pursue the charter of the PESS.
Lt Gen Abdul Qayyum President PESS informed the members of his plans to have regular meetings with the civil and military leadership, particularly those functionaries that can assist in realization of the PESS objectives.
The CWC members agreed that the meetings of the President PESS with the relevant government and Tri Service functionaries is quite essential to apprise them of PESS issues and seek guidance/patronage for PESS activities/functions.
The President expressed his keenness/desire to extend maximum assistance to the families of Shuhuda and the handicapped Ex-servicemen through the auspices of Provincial, District, Tehsils and UC Committees of the PESS.
Making mention of the favorable court decision, the President directed the CWC members to work in unison to renew the PESS registration and get the Banks and Social Media accounts activated for which support of DGISPR and MoD will be critical.
President desired that preparation for the next biannual National Council meeting should be made in time.
