KARACHI: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif inaugurated the new Shalimar Express train and Modernized Karachi Cantt Station, where he applauded the Railways Minister for refurbishing 54 Railway stations in the country so far, expressing the hope that all Railway stations across the country will be modernized soon.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony, the Prime Minister congratulated Pakistan Railways for this upgradation. Commending the collaboration between Sindh government and Pakistan Railways, the Prime Minister emphasized replicating it with the provincial governments of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He said this exemplary federal-provincial partnership will result in developing Pakistan Railways as a modern transportation network in the region.
He said central Asia has a huge potential for development of Railways network and the proactive approach demonstrated by Pakistan Railways will make Pakistan a regional hub of communications. Shehbaz Sharif said the resumption of Islamabad-Tehran Istanbul train will usher in a new era of economic growth and development for Pakistan.
He said the federal and Sindh governments will continue efforts for completion of Karachi Circular Line project. The Prime Minister said the federal government will ensure disbursement of funds required to complete the Thar Coal railway project aimed at linking the Thar coal deposits to Pakistan Railways network.
Minister for Information Attaullah Tarar, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and other senior officials were present on the occasion.
