ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday congratulated the Pakistan football team, its coaches, and management on winning the 2026 Diamond Jubilee International Football Tournament title.
Pakistan beat Afghanistan 2-0 in the Diamond Jubilee International Football Tournament final in Male on Wednesday. The win gave Pakistan their first senior men’s international final triumph since 1991 and first standalone title since 1952, APP reported.
On this occasion, the prime minister in a statemen said that the historic victory was a matter of pride for the entire nation as the team had elevated the country’s stature on the global stage through its spectacular performance, determination, and teamwork.
He emphasised that this win marked the first official international football tournament title in Pakistan’s history, serving as a significant milestone for the promotion of national sports and young athletes.
The PM Shehbaz expressed hope that the national football team would continue to secure further victories with the same passion and hard work in the future, bringing pride to the nation.
