ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Wednesday forecast heavy snowfall in the country’s upper regions and intensified cold with dense fog in the plains from December 20 to 22.
According to the PMD, intermittent rain and hail are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree and the Galiyat, while upper districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are also likely to receive rain, hail and snowfall during the period.
The Met Office has warned of heavy snowfall in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, which may disrupt road traffic in mountainous areas.
In Punjab’s plains, authorities have cautioned about a further drop in temperatures along with increased fog intensity during morning and night hours.
Advising travellers, the PMD urged caution while using motorways and hilly routes due to reduced visibility and the risk of landslides caused by snowfall.
Relevant departments have also been directed to remain on alert to deal with any emergency situation.
