ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) termed the impression given by some sections that PPP is being summoned by Election Commission of Pakistan as false and concocted.
PPP Secretary General, Syed Nayyar Hussain Bukhari, has clarified the news regarding the summoning of PPP by the in a funding case, saying that the impression that the ECP was investigating PPP’s financial affairs is false as the ECP is instead hearing an application regarding the ‘transfer’ of PPP and PPPP’s funds.
He said that in 2017, an application was filed by PTI’s Farrukh Habib regarding a banned fund being received which was supposedly transferred to Pakistan. This case was handed over to the committee handling PTI’s foreign funding case and in 2018. Mr. Farrukh himself was absent from the hearings and was unable to provide any evidence against PPP, he added.
Pakistan Peoples Party senior leader said that instead of attending the hearing again, he kept requesting to postpone the hearing. Due to him not being present on 12 November, the hearing was postponed to 26 November.
The news regarding PPP’s financial affairs being investigated is completely false, Bukhari added.
