Premier Shehbaz to nominate Nawaz Sharif as PML-N president in key huddles

LAHORE: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was expected to nominate Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif as the party president in the key huddles, slated to happen next Saturday (May 11).

Sources divulged that the meetings of the party’s central executive committee and general council had been convened on May 11.

The invitations for the forthcoming meetings had also been issued.

According to the sources, it had not decided yet to change any other organisational posts, with the expectation of the party president post.

Few days, former interior minister Rana Sanaullah said he personally urged Nawaz Sharif to resume his role as the party president.

Separately, PML-N senior leader Khawaja Saad Rafique, saying, “Everyone wants former prime minister Nawaz Sharif to spearhead the party”.

“Now there is no constitutional obstacle for Nawaz Sharif to become the party president. Nawaz Sharif has been requested to take charge as the party president,” he said.

Meanwhile, the central leaders of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will sit together today at party’s Model Town Secretariat to mull strategy amid wheat purchase crisis in Punjab.

According to sources, party leader Nawaz Sharif and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will attend the meeting. Nawaz Sharif has asked Shehbaz Sharif to attend today’s meeting.

The meeting of the central leaders of PML-N will be held at 2pm at the party secretariat. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is expected to attend the meeting while senior leaders including Rana Sanaullah and Khawaja Asif will be in attendance.

Provincial ministers and other relevant officials have been directed to make sure their presence at the Model Town Secretariat. Party leaders will be briefed on the issue of wheat procurement in the consultative meeting.

It should be noted that a day earlier, Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had presided over a meeting regarding wheat procurement.

Nawaz Sharif decided to hold accountable those who created wheat crisis in the country. The meeting, held in Lahore under the chairmanship of Nawaz Sharif, was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Rana Sanaullah, Khawaja Asif and other leaders.

During the meeting, Punjab Food Minister Bilal Yasin gave a briefing on the issue of wheat procurement and stated that the responsibility of the wheat crisis lies with those who imported wheat from abroad.
