Tributes continue to pour for Justice Shiraz Kiyani, Dadyal mourns

MIRPUR (AJK): Justice Muhammad Shiraz Kiyani, the Acting Chief Justice of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) High Court was laid to rest on Tuesday amid sorrow and grief in Mirpur district, particularly in his native area Dadyal.

Thousands of people gathered to offer his nimaz e janaza and paid tributes to the deceased. Social media pages were full of condolences and praise for the late judge who was considered an upright person and towering personality of the AJK judiciary.

Late Justice Shiraz Kiyani had a distinguished career in the judicial history of Azad Jammu Kashmir. He started his career as lawyer and practiced in Dadyal and Mirpur.  He started his judicial service as Civil Judge in AJK in 1995 after passing examination with distinction.

He was promoted as Sr. Civil Judge in 2003 and was elevated to the office of Additional District and Session Judge in 2006.

He was promoted as Judge of AJK High Court in September 23, 2015. Late Justice Muhammad Shiraz Kiani, senior most judge of the AJK High Court, had been appointed as acting chief justice of the AJK High Court on March 20 this year after the retirement of Justice Azhar Saleem Babar, then acting CJ of AJK HC, on March 22 this year.

Justice Kiyani was awarded pride of performance by the AJK High Court for year 2003-2004.

He was being treated as private hospital in Islamabad for the the past few months where he breathed his last at the age of 56. News of his untimely death saddened judiciary, lawyers fraternity and locals of the area.

Justice Kiyani was second judge of the higher judiciary from Dadyal who passed during their service. Earlier Justice Younas Sorakhvi, then Chief Justice of the Supreme Court breathed his last while in service .

Condolences kept pouring for the family of late Justice Kiyani. AJK President, Prime Minister, cabinet members and bar associations deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise.

President Dr. Arif Alvi in a statement expressed his condolences and sympathized with the bereaved family.

He prayed Almighty Allah to rest the departed soul in eternal peace and grant patience to the bereaved family.
