ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari said on Monday that no domestic or foreign force will be allowed to use neighboring territory against Pakistan’s peace, the Radio Pakistan reported.
He made these remarks during his address to the Joint Sitting of both Houses of the Parliament in Islamabad, stating that the recent UN report has described the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan as an extra-regional threat.
This report warns that any other country could fall victim to another catastrophic attack if the issue is ignored.
The President underscored that despite multiple diplomatic engagements by Pakistan and friendly countries, the Afghan de facto regime continues to provide safe sanctuaries to a variety of terrorist groups including Al-Qaeda, BLA and TTP.
All promises, he stated, they made in Doha, not to allow these terror groups to operate from its soil, but have been conveniently forgotten.
Mr Zardari added that they must choose to dismantle the terror groups that survive on conflict and its war economy.
He urged them to stop being used by another country as a battlefield for their ambitions.
Asif Ali Zardari also condemned the war being waged on Iran while negotiations were under way.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of its brotherly nation.
The president emphasised the need to protect sovereignty, eliminate terrorism and build on economic stability to achieve growth and create jobs.
