In a bold move to address the artificial shortage of petrol in Pakistan, Prime Minister Imran Khan has taken decisive action, signaling his unwavering commitment to ensuring the welfare of the nation.

Chairing a Federal Cabinet meeting, PM Khan directed strict measures against all entities responsible for creating the scarcity, asserting the government’s determination to uphold the rule of law and safeguard the interests of the people.

The Cabinet, recognizing the urgency of the situation, empowered the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the Petroleum Division to conduct physical inspections of oil companies’ storage facilities. Furthermore, joint raiding teams, comprising representatives from various agencies including the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and district administrations, have been formed to inspect petrol depots and storage sites, with the authority to take immediate action against any violations.

Under PM Khan’s leadership, the Cabinet made it unequivocally clear that individuals or companies found hoarding petrol would face severe consequences, including arrest and the forced release of the stored supplies. Moreover, companies failing to maintain mandatory stocks and supply to their outlets risk suspension, cancellation of licenses, and hefty fines.

The Prime Minister’s directive to ensure regular petrol supplies within 48-72 hours underscores the government’s commitment to swiftly resolving the crisis and alleviating the burden on the public. In June 2019, Pakistan faced a total petrol supply of 650,000 metric tons, whereas, under PM Khan’s leadership, supplies for June 2020 increased to 850,000 metric tons, demonstrating proactive measures to meet the nation’s energy needs.

PM Khan, emphasizing the importance of public cooperation, urged citizens not to engage in panic buying, assuring that hoarded stocks would be identified and made available in the market. His call for collective responsibility echoes his commitment to transparency and accountability in governance.

Furthermore, PM Khan’s directive to ensure that every oil marketing company maintains a 21-day stock to meet licensing conditions reflects his proactive approach to prevent future shortages and ensure long-term stability in the petrol supply chain.

As someone deeply invested in the oil business, I commend Prime Minister Imran Khan for his resolute stance and decisive actions in addressing the petrol shortage crisis. His unwavering leadership and commitment to upholding the rule of law are paramount in steering Pakistan towards prosperity and ensuring the well-being of its citizens.

Together, under PM Khan’s visionary leadership, Pakistan will overcome challenges and emerge stronger, resilient, and more prosperous than ever before.
