LAHORE: Promoting arts and culture in educational institutions a Memorandum of Understating (MoU) was singed between the two prestigious institutions of metropolitan, i.e. Government College University Lahore and Lahore Arts Council, for encouragement of artistic and cultural endeavors to maximize youth involvement in the promotion of culture and literature.
Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Asghar Zaidi and Lahore Arts Council Executive Director Ather Ali Khan signed the accord at a graceful ceremony organized by the GCU Directorate of Academic Planning and External Links (AP&EL) at the University’s Meeting Rooms. Chairperson of LAC Board of Governors MS. Muneeza Hashmi, was the Guest of Honor at the ceremony, the occasion was also attended by Assistant Director Admin Lahore Arts Council Mr. Khuram Shah and GCU faculty deans, Prof. Sultan Shah, Prof. Riaz Ahmad and Prof. Khalid Manzoor Butt, Distinguished National Professor Dr. Ikram-ul-Haq, Registrar Saboor Ahmad Khan and senior official of GCU.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Zaidi called for changing the society’s attitude towards arts education. He added that both GCU and LAC had agreed to pool in their resources and holding conferences, seminars, talks and workshops on artistic, literary, cultural and intellectual themes, so that a debate could be initiated in this regard. Chairman of the Board of Governors, Lahore Arts Council, Moneeza Hashmi, said in her remarks that Alhamra has taken a new step which will have positive effects and this initiative will be of great help in accomplishing our cultural and educational goals.
Executive Director Alhamra Athar Ali Khan expressing his views on signing the (MoU), saying that, mutual cooperation with GCU will bring more youth into positive cultural activities which are a very positive step to progress and promotion of art and culture.
Khan stated that, GCU was one of the most prestigious educational institutions of Pakistan which always pursed, nurtured, and celebrated excellence not only in research & education, but also in arts and culture. He further said that, after singing this MoU, GC University would be able to organize its programs at Alhamra including music shows, plays and other cultural activities to accelerate the promotion of literature and culture.
According to the 27 point accord, GCU would also impart IT, HR and other financial management trainings to the employees of LAC. Later, the Vice-Chancellor presented shields and souvenir to the officials of LAC.
