PTI first govt to have started billion trees project: PM

ISLAMABAD:Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan on Friday said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was the first party that understood tree planting phenomenon in Pakistan.

In a tweet, PM said that his government has started the billion tree tsunami. For the future of our generations, we must all strive to make our 10 billion tree tsunami a success, he requested the people.

He said that tree planting ‘has mind-blowing potential’ to tackle climate crisis, adding research shows a trillion trees could be planted to capture huge amount of carbon dioxide

Under Prime Minister Imran, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which came to power last year, pledged to plant billions of trees to tackle the effects of climate change.

In 2013, PTI-led KP government introduced a green-growth initiative to tackle deforestation, build more small-scale hydroelectric projects and overhaul national parks.(INP)
