Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has been passing through some fresh turbulences.
There are new reports that cracks are widening among party’s top ranks particularly between its supremo Nawaz Sharif and President Shahbaz Sharif.
Three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been handed over to National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on physical remand over allegations of money laundering in Chaudhry Sugar Mills case.
He has already been locked up in Kot Lakhpat Jail. Reportedly, Shahbaz Sharif is opposing his elder brother’s decision to join Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s Islamabad lockdown plan.
As widely reported by national media, Shahbaz Sharif believes the party should abandon the path of confrontation with “mighty forces’ but Nawaz Sharif is adamant that his party takes an active part in Maulana’s agitation program to dislodge Iman Khan-led government.
There are divergent views in PML-N leadership whether it should participate in Azaadi march or not. Party’s top brass met on Wednesday at Model Town Lahore and had a threadbare discussion on the issue.
It was decided that Shahbaz Sharif would meet his elder brother imprisoned in Kot Lakhpat. Interestingly, Shahbaz Sharif skipped Thursday’s meeting due to his backache.
Meanwhile, Nawaz Sharif’s son-in-law Captian (Retd) Muhammad Safdar made headlines saying Nawaz Sharif has announced to actively participate in the Azaadi march. “Those who love Nawaz Sharif will definitely join Maulana sb Azaadi march,” Safdar contended.

To make it more clear, Nawaz Sharif while appearing before the accountability court said his party fully supports Maulana’s Azaadi march on October 27.
Rather, he regretted that Maulana’s proposal to quit assemblies after 2018 elections should have been given weightage. When most of party’s senior leaders and workers were chanting slogans in favor of Nawaz Sharif at accountability court, Shahbaz Sharif was once again found missing from the scene.
Many political observers feel that Nawaz Sharif has left no room for younger Sharif to stay away from much talked about Azaadi march. Signs of discomfort are quite clear. The main opposition party ruled by Sharifs is going through tough times and differences among Sharifs are denting it more.
