ISLAMABAD: Arshad Nadeem has ascended to the hall of fame in Pakistan’s sports history by breaking the Olympic record twice in the javelin throw final at the Paris Olympics 2024, securing the gold medal.
Nadeem’s throw of 92.97 meters earned Pakistan its first Olympic medal in 32 years, surpassing India’s Neeraj Chopra. In recognition of this historic achievement, Nadeem is set to receive numerous awards and cash prizes, with various ministers and public figures in Pakistan announcing their felicitations. Arshad Nadeem is set to be awarded over Rs 150 million (more than USD 538,000), along with a Golden Crown and other honors.
The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz, has announced a reward of Rs 100 million for Nadeem, while Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan has added a further PKR 2 million to the prize.
The Chief Minister of Sindh and Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab has pledged Rs 50 million to Nadeem, and Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori has announced an additional Rs 1 million.
Popular Pakistani singer Ali Zafar and cricketer Ahmad Shahzad have both committed Rs 1 million each through their respective foundations.
Further accolades await Nadeem, including the Highest Civil Award, a Golden Crown, and additional tributes.
The Lower House of the Pakistan Parliament unanimously passed a resolution on Friday recommending that the government honor Arshad Nadeem with the highest civil award, according to Radio Pakistan.
Deputy Chairman of the Senate, Syedail Khan Nasar, will host an honorary dinner for Nadeem upon his return to Pakistan.
