ISLAMABAD: An instance of strange theft has been reported at the Embassy of Italy, Islamabad as around 1,000 stickers of Schengen visas have been reported missing, sources informed The News Today.

The Foreign Ministry has written a letter in this regard to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Interior Ministry.

The Foreign Ministry informed the Interior Ministry about the number of the stolen visa stickers. It revealed that 1,000 visa stickers had gone missing from the locker of the Italian Embassy.

The serial numbers of 750 stolen stickers of Schengen visas start from 041913251 to 041914000 and the serial numbers of 250 stolen stickers start from 041915751 to 041916000.

Foreign Ministry said that the Italian Embassy in Islamabad is also investigating the matter itself.

It directed the Interior Ministry to check visas bearing the afore-mentioned numbers at all entry and exit points of Pakistani borders.

A Schengen visa is a short-stay visa that allows a person to travel to any members of the Schengen Area, per stay up to 90 days for tourism or business purposes.

The Schengen visa is the most common visa for Europe. It also enables its holder to enter, freely travel within, and leave the Schengen zone from any of the Schengen member countries.

There are no border controls within the Schengen Zone.
