ISLAMABAD: As temperatures across Pakistan continue to climb, the Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a public advisory urging citizens to take immediate precautions ahead of an intensifying heat wave expected to grip major cities and plains of Punjab starting May 19.
In a televised statement, a PDMA spokesperson warned that daytime temperatures are expected to rise to dangerous levels, with Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa bracing for extreme heat over the coming days.
Citizens are advised to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay hydrated. Vulnerable populations—including children, the elderly, and those with chronic health conditions—are at greater risk of heatstroke and dehydration.
“We strongly urge the public to monitor official weather updates, reduce outdoor exposure, and wear appropriate clothing and head coverings,” said the PDMA spokesperson.

While the searing heat is expected to dominate much of the day, gusty winds and isolated thundershowers could bring brief evening relief in parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Kashmir, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
However, the PDMA cautioned tourists, particularly those planning trips to Murree and other hilly areas, to stay informed and avoid travel during unstable weather conditions.

Commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab have been directed to remain on high alert, especially in areas where the heat may combine with unexpected rainfall or storm activity, potentially causing localized disruptions.
