Routine life in IOK remains badly hit on 79th day

Indian troops martyr Kashmiri youth as curfew continues on 38th day in IOK

SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, the routine life continues to remain badly hit on 79th consecutive day, on Tuesday, in Kashmir valley and Muslim majority areas of Jammu region with continued heavy deployment of Indian forces and strict restrictions in place under Section 144.

According to Kashmir Media Service, some postpaid mobile phone connections have been restored a day or two ago, but there’s no sign of restoring the internet and prepaid cellular phone services for the inhabitants of the territory. Owing to these circumstances, people are cut off from their loved ones, healthcare services have taken a hit and tourism has grounded to a halt.

Public transport is off the roads. Shops and business centers barring few hours in the morning and evening of a day continue to remain shut. Though educational institutions and offices are open yet very few show up there.

This is a kind of an informal but widespread civil disobedience movement, which has gripped the Valley to protest India’s August 5 illegal action and its efforts to portray a sense of normalcy in the territory. People from all walks of life including students, shopkeepers, fruit growers, businessmen and public and private sector workers are all participating in this extensive and non-violent initiative.

According to media reports, postpaid mobile services, which were recently restored in the Kashmir Valley, may be shut again ahead of October 31 when J&K will be declared as the UT. This will be one of the measures on part of the IOK administration to foil any anti-India protests.

The CRPF units deployed in IOK have planned to equip their dogs with special cameras, which will help handlers to understand what dogs are viewing. The process of purchasing these cameras has been initiated. The officials have claimed that CRPF will be the first Indian force to purchase these cameras for its K9 unit. Zardari shifted to PIMS for medical attention

ISLAMABAD: Former president Asif Ali Zardari was transferred to the PIMS Hospital in view of his “deteriorating health” following a recommendation of a medical board examining his health on Tuesday.

Amid tight security, Zardari’s has been directly shifted from an accountability court to the hospital.

According to sources, the district administration is considering declaring PIMS Hospital a sub-jail.

On Oct 15, the court had rejected a petition filed by Zardari, who has been put in jail on judicial remand, seeking his shift to a hospital for medical care.

The court had remarked that the court doesn’t have jurisdiction over the matter, and it should be referred to the relevant forum.

Zardari’s advocate Latif Khosa had argued before the court that his client’s life was in danger and it was his Constitutional right to avail medical facilities in the jail.

“Zardari doesn’t want anything from this government, but his legal rights must be ensured […] we hadn’t asked for an apology from even Zia-ul-Haq,” he had said.

“Judicial relief is our right […] if Zardari suffers any kind of heart ailment, these people wont transfer him to a hospital […] it takes an hour-and-a-half to reach a hospital from the Adiala Jail,” he had mentioned.

“A medial board had recommended shifting Zardari to PIMS for getting medical care and these people took him to the hospital just for a day and shifted him back to the jail on the very next day,” he had further argued before the court.

Khosa had pleaded with the court to direct authorities to allow Zardari his personal attendant until he stays in his prison.

“Our people will set up tents in front of the jail,” he had warned.(Additional Input From INP)

Pakistan sees prospects exporting precious stones to China

ISLAMABAD: Pakistani traders believe that the export of precious stones and jewelry from gem-rich Pakistan to China will help the country in revenue generation.

Addressing the Export Promotion Committee of Pakistan China Joint Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCJCCI), the chamber’s President Zarak Khan said that China is the world’s largest consumer of gems and jewelry and Pakistan being the fifth largest country of gemstones reservoirs in the world can tap the potential of the Chinese market.

Apart from having an abundance of gemstones, Pakistan also has some unique stones in the world including Pink Topaz and Kashmir Ruby which are famous for their unique color and beauty in the international market. Pink Topaz is also considered one of the highest valued minerals in the world.

The country has potential to exploit and export 800,000 carats of Ruby, 87,000 carats of Emerald and 5 million carats of Peridot, but the yield is much lower, due to lack of skills, technology, and knowledge for processing of the mining materials, reports Gwadar Pro media network quoting the chamber official.

The country also could not carry out value-added services to the processed stones due to lack of appropriate cutting and polishing facilities, and PCJCCI officials believed that collaboration with China to learn the latest techniques for cutting and polishing of the gemstones may be greatly beneficial for Pakistan to uplift the sector.

They suggested that Chinese professionals in this sector should be invited to train Pakistani labor force and mining engineers for cutting, manufacturing and designing state of the art jewelry.(Additional Input From INP)
