ISLAMABAD: Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations) Waqar Uddin Syed has directed to revamp security and vigilance Committees in Islamabad and include people from all walks of life in it for better output.

He issued the directives while presiding a meeting held here on Monday to review the crime and security situation in the city.  SP (Investigation) Dr. Syed Mustafa Tanveer, Additional SP Muhammad Zeeshan, all Zonal SPs, SDPOs and SHOs attended the meeting.

DIG (Operations) asked for friendly policing environment and serve the people with commitment and dedication. He directed for immediate redressal of complaints and concerns of the people.

He asked to erect special pickets in the city to check incidents of car theft and increase patrolling in those areas where crime rate is being reported high. DIG (Operations) asked SPs and SDPOs to check themselves patrolling duties of the staff and brief them about effective policing measures.

Waqar Uddin Syed further directed all SDPOs and SHOs to monitor the security of their respective areas and keep check and balance on their subordinate staff deputed for security purpose.

He asked to follow the slogan of “First Salute then proceed decently for good repute” (Pehley Salam – Phir Kalam) to ensure decent policing culture in the city and deal with citizens in a respectful manner.

The DIG (Operations) asked the police officials to brief their staff about decent policing steps before assigning them any duty and ensure complete implementation on them. .

Mr. Waqar warned that no complaint of sluggish attitude would be tolerated and friendly police ecology would be inculcated in the city. (INP)

ISLAMABAD: Federal Ministry of National Health Services in coordination with provinces is making all out effort to curb dengue outbreak. Special Assistant to Prime Minister on National Health Services, Regulations & Coordination Dr. Zafar Mirza has said that federal government is in coordination with provinces to curb dengue outbreak and concerted efforts are being made to check it.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Dr. Zafar Mirza said that Dengue Control and Operations Center has been set up in Ministry of Health, Islamabad which would daily review the dengue related situation across the country and to take steps to control it. He said that two hotlines with contact numbers (051-9212601 and 9216890) would work round the clock and expert doctors would respond to the dengue related queries to the people.

The Special Assistant said that there are 10,013 dengue patients at present in the country out of which 2,363 are in Punjab, 2,258 in Sindh, 1,814 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and 1,772 in Balochistan. There have been instances in the past when we had been twice the number of patients as compared to the figure this year but we are fully focused and our whole concentration at present is to check its outbreak rather than doing politics. We must put aside politics and work in unison to address the Dengue outbreak, said Dr. Zafar Mirza.

During the last 48 hours, the maximum patients suffering from dengue were identified and this number may increase in coming 7-10 days. It is our responsibility to suggest preventive measures to the people and special hotlines have been set up for the same purpose, he said adding that 70 percent dengue patients in Punjab are from Potohar region.

Dr. Zafar Mirza said that special study or research would be conducted in the coming days as why this dengue spread out in this Potohar region. He said that an Emergency Centre had been established at National Institute of Health (NIH) ten days before and the entire statistics, also available on NIH website, were being compiled there daily.

Keeping in view the possible increase in number of dengue patients, the Special Assistant to Prime Minister said that owners of private hospitals in Islamabad were contacted who committed to provide a total of 1000 beds in their hospitals in case of capacity issue in the government hospitals. The treatment at these private hospitals would be free of cost, he said and thanked the management of private hospitals over this gesture.

Moreover, he said that 16 Basic Health Units in Islamabad have been made functional and trained doctors are providing treatment to dengue and other patients. He asked the people to visit these units for carrying out tests following which the medical staff would guide to visit nearest hospital in case of any issue with them.

He said that health department has been fumigating the most affected areas while federal government is in coordination with provincial governments to curb dengue outbreak and provide health facilities to patients.

Earlier, chairing a meeting of senior health officials on Dengue Situation SAPM on Health assigned Director General Health to conduct Clinical Audit and Physical Inspection of Dengue Wards in all four major hospitals of Islamabad; PIMS, Polyclinic, FGH and NIRM.

A daily report will be submitted in this regard to the SAPM on Health, Secretary Health and Dengue Control Room. CEO of Sehat Sahulat Program was assigned to liaise with Private Hospitals in Islamabad who had offered 1,000 beds to SAPM on Health free of cost should the need arise.

SAPM on Health constituted a three member team to oversee preventive measures. Chief Field Epidemiology Division of NIH was assigned to update National Action Plan on Dengue Outbreak with inputs from all Provinces so as to ensure adequate planning, training, curative, preventive, promotive, outbreak response for next year. Robber’s gang busted, arms, bikes, stolen jewelry recovered

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Sabzi Mandi Police busted a three-member gang of dacoits and recovered bikes, gold ornaments and weapons from their possession, a police spokesman said on Monday.

Following special directions from IGP Islamabad Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan, the spokesman said that DIG (Operations) Waqar Ud Din Syed has categorically asked all zonal police officers to start crackdown against those involved in crime heinous nature and theft of vehicles.

As per these directions, SP (Industrial Area) constituted special police teams under supervision of SDPO (Industrial Area). One of the team including SHO (Sabzi Mandi) Sub-Inspector Tariq Rauf, ASI Zulfiqar and others succeeded to arrest three gangsters identified as Zabi s/o Naseer Khan, resident of Sector H-13 Islamabad, Jameel s/o Gul Muhammad Khan, resident of Hazara Colony Rawalpindi and Manzoor Khan, resident of Afghanistan. Police recovered pistol, gold ornaments, two motorbikes and 400 gram heroin from their possession.

During preliminary investigation, these nabbed persons of gang confessed their involvement in many cases of dacoitees in various areas of Sabzi Mandi and Golra police stations. Further investigation is underway from them.

DIG (Operations) Waqar Ud Din Syed has appreciated this performance of Sabzi Mandi police team and further directed to all officers to accelerate efforts to curb the crime in capital. He categorically asked all officials to remain high alert during duty hours and keep hawk eye on suspected persons.

He further said that safety of life and property of citizens is our prime responsibility and no stone would be left unturned in this regard. (INP)

ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) issued 6, 53,556 fine tickets worth Rs. 17, 68, 54,600 to road users on violation of traffic rules during the year 2019, a police spokesman said.

According to the details, 27,007 vehicles were fined for having fancy (non-pattern) number plates while 66,697 fine tickets were issued to motorists for not fastening seat belts, 15,150 for using mobile phones during driving, 1351 for under-age driving  and 88,394 motorcyclists for riding on bikes without helmets.

Similarly, 32,091 tickets were issued over lane violation, 10,194 over wrong parking, 1,09,247 for careless driving, 1,455 for having defective lights, 25,652 for hampering traffic, 7,160 for driving on wrong sides, 5,264 for driving without registration, 8,241 for driving without license, 563 for misbehaving with passengers, 22,841 for obstructing smooth flow of traffic, 56,324 for over-loading, 3,257 for over-speeding, 3,543 for parking at bus stops, 741 for parking on zebra crossing, 1,427 for having pressure horns, 3,979 for negligence during drive, 10,315 for route violation, 5,105 for driving without route permits, 21,637 over violation of traffic signals, 12,595 for having tinted glasses on vehicles, 23,879 for taking turn from wrong side, 5,220 for using high beam lights and 99,809 over violation of miscellaneous nature.

ITP’s personnel also fined 552 VIPs during the current year including parliamentarians, diplomats and bureaucrats.

The VIPs fined during the ongoing year included 36 MNAs/MPAs, 239 government officers, 58 foreign diplomats, 116 army officials, six judiciary officers, 38 journalists and 59 police officers among others. 

While reviewing this report, SSP (Traffic) Farrukh Rasheed has appreciated it and said that vigorous campaign of ITP was launched as per directions of IGP Islamabad Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar to create awareness among citizens about traffic rules.

The focus areas of this campaign was  elimination of tinted glasses from vehicles, use of non-pattern number plates and curbing practice of over-speeding as well as lane violation, driving motorbikes without helmets, silencers as well as one-wheeling.

He said that ITP is taking action against those using un- authorized number plates or LED lights on their vehicles and special squads have been constituted to check this practice.

As per directions of IGP Islamabad Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar, he said that ITP personnel has been directed to ensure implementation on traffic rules and regulation irrespective of status and rank and demonstrate patience and politeness while issuing traffic violation tickets to the road users.

He said that ITP is utilizing all available resources to facilitate the general public. He has appealed the citizens to follow rules and use number plates issued by Excise and Taxation Office.

The personnel of the force issue traffic violation tickets not as a punitive measure but the purpose is to ensure safe road environment in the Capital and secure the lives of the people, the SSP (Traffic) maintained.(INP)

1,408 pressure horns removed from vehicles

ISLAMABAD: Special squads of Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) constituted to check noise pollution removed 1,408 pressure horns from vehicles during the ongoing year and imposed heavy fines to their drivers.

According to the police spokesman, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Farrukh Rashid has constituted special squads to make the capital noise-free. During the ongoing year, 1,408 pressure horns were removed from various vehicles by the police teams and fine tickets were issued to their drivers.

He said ITP has accelerated action against those using pressure horns because the noise pollution affects the nerves and injurious to human health. Strict action would be taken against those installing pressure horns, he added.

Special squads of ITP have been further directed to conduct regular checking and fine vehicles involved in creating noise pollution or other environmental pollution in the city.  The purpose of this whole practice is to end noise pollution in the city, the SSP maintained.

He said the citizens may lodge their complaint at 1915 or 051-9261192-93 in case of observing any vehicle using these horns and irritating them. (INP)

BEIJING: The Defence Day of Pakistan was celebrated at embassy of Pakistan in Beijing, China to pay homage to martyrs of the 1965 war as well as to those brave souls who rendered ultimate sacrifice in the defense of Pakistan.

The ceremony began as national anthems of Pakistan and China were played which was followed by a cake cutting ceremony.

The chief guest on the occasion, Lieutenant General Shao Yuanming, Vice Chief of Staff, Joint Staff Department of PLA, along with Ambassador Naghmana Alamgir Hashmi and Defence and Army Attach Brigadier Shahid Amir Afsar sliced the cake to mark the day.

Welcoming the guests, Ambassador Hashmi said Defence Day is commemorated as a tribute to our valiant armed forces and to their inherent patriotism, discipline, and commitment.

The 6th of September is an important day in the history of Pakistan. On this day in the year 1965, the armed forces and people of Pakistan, demonstrating unparalleled valor and thwarted enemy’s nefarious designs, she added.

National songs were played while documentaries on Pakistan were shown during the well-attended event.

PM IK to deliver keynote address at UNGA on September 27

ISLAMABAD : Prime Minister Imran Khan IK will lead the Pakistan delegation during the high-level week of the UN General Assembly Session in New York from 21-27 September, ARY News reported on Friday.

The prime minister IK will deliver his address to the UN General Assembly on Friday, September 27, and share Pakistan’s perspective and position on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and its current human rights and related dimensions said a Foreign Office statement.

The Prime Minister will hold several bilateral meetings with his counterparts from various regions and participate in high-level UN summits on climate change, sustainable development, universal health coverage and financing for development.

According to the Foreign Office, the Prime Minister IK will also attend and speak at high-level side events co-hosted by Pakistan and Turkey on countering hate speech and on environmental protection and poverty alleviation, co-hosted by Malaysia and Pakistan. A trilateral summit meeting of Pakistan, Malaysia and Turkey will be held on the General Assembly sidelines.

Apart from these engagements, the Prime Minister will interact with a cross-section of international media outlets including meetings with editorial boards, added FO.

The premier will also avail the opportunity to articulate Pakistan’s perspective on some key contemporary issues. Overall, the centrality of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute would be emphasized through myriad engagements.

Indian leadership a threat to regional, world peace: President Alvi

ISLAMABAD: President Dr. Arif Alvi says Indian leadership has become a threat not only to the regional and world peace but also to the very social fabric of India itself.

He was talking to Turkish media delegation on Friday, Radio Pakistan reported.

The President said belligerent Indian leadership, with its thumb on nuclear button, is doggedly Hinduizing India and persecuting minorities in India.

He said the world cannot expect the butcher of Gujarat to respect the fundamental rights of the Kashmiri people.

He underscored that what India is doing in Occupied Kashmir is analogous to Israeli brutalities in Palestine. He said will of the people cannot be suppressed by power and India too shall fail in suffocating Kashmiri freedom struggle.

Replying to a question, the President said that Pakistan aspired for peace, but if war is imposed on us, we would retaliate with full might.

He said that Hindutva-fanatics of Modi Regime are transforming the secular outlook of India and what is happening in Kashmir is only an extension of what is happening in the rest of the India. He said that today minorities of India live in constant fear of persecution.

Dr Arif Alvi underscored that over eight million Kashmiris have been virtually caged for the last six weeks by an illegal military occupation that has swelled in ranks.

He said India’s unilateral action of 5th August of altering the status of Occupied Kashmir, recognized as a disputed territory by the UN Security Council, is illegal under international law.

He stressed that the international community must play its part to persuade India to restore the civic rights and liberties of Kashmiri people.

Appreciating the role of Turkish media in highlighting illegality of Indian actions, the President hoped that it would continue its efforts to raise voice for the oppressed people of the Occupied Kashmir.

He further said that Pakistan is thankful to the people and the Government of Turkey for its constant support on Kashmir issue and added that Pakistan would continue to support Turkey and its people on issues of Turkish interest. (INP)

Prince William and Princess Kate Middleton to visit Pakistan in Oct

KENSINGTON PALACE: The Royal couple of Prince William and Princess, Kate Middleton’s Pakistan trip confirmed, formal approval and dates announced for the visit.

Prince William and Princess, Kate Middleton, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will visit Pakistan on October 14 and stay in the country till October 18.

The British High Commissioner confirmed the visit earlier today.

A tweet from the official Twitter handle of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Royal Foundation, based at Kensington Palace, tweeted out confirmation of the visit, as well.

It will be the first official visit by a member of the British royal family to Pakistan since 2006 when Prince Charles and Camilla traveled to Pakistan.

William and Kate’s last major tour was to Sweden and Norway in January 2018, when the Duchess was pregnant with their third child Prince Louis.

The Duke has undertaken solo visits to the Middle East, France, Africa and New Zealand since then.

The couple also travelled to Cyprus last December to deliver Christmas presents to members of the 11 Squadron at RAF Akrotiri.

It’s set to be a busy couple of months for the royal family as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex begin their ten-day tour of southern Africa on Monday 23 September.

PM apprises Saudi King about Kashmir situation

RIYADH: Prime Minister Imran Khan met Saudi King Salman bin Abdul Aziz on Thursday.

During the meeting, PM Khan informed the Saudi King about the latest situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Both leaders exchanged views on bilateral relations, regional and global political situation and expressed their desire to further enhance and diversify bilateral cooperation.

Matters pertaining to mutual interest, trade, investment and economic relations also came under discussion during the meeting, a statement issued by the PM Office said.

The prime minister, who is on a two-day official visit of Saudi Arabia before in onward journey to New York to attend the UN General Assembly session, condemned attack on the Kingdom’s oil facilities.

On Thursday, the premier called on Saudi Crown Prince and Defence Minister Muhammad Bin Salman in Jeddah and discussed bilateral relations and matters of mutual interest.

According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister Media Wing in Islamabad, the prime minister also condemned the recent attacks on oil installations in Saudi Arabia, which cut the kingdom’s crude production and fanned fear of further instability in the Middle East.

Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Adviser on Finance Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Special Assistant for Overseas Pakistanis Zulfiqar Bukhari and other officials are accompanying the prime minister on the visit.

PM, wife Bushra perform Umrah

Prime Minister Imran Khan along with his wife Bushra Bibi performed Umrah on Friday. The Holy Kaa’ba’s doors were specially opened for the prime minister and his delegation.

During the Umrah, Prime Minister Khan prayed for the prosperity and stability of the country. Afterwards, the premier along his wife and delegation headed to Madina to pay their respects at Roza-e-Rasool (SAW).
