ISLAMABAD: Capital Police arrested on Saturday night a Faysal Bank employee who was caught groping a woman on camera.
“Police raided his house. The culprit has turned his cell off and his hiding for the last three hours,” Islamabad Deputy Commissioner Hamza Shafqaat said in a tweet.
The bank employee identified as Usman Gohar has also been dismissed from his job by the bank and raids are being conducted to arrest him, he added in another Twitter post.
The action against the bank employee was taken after a video of him harassing and inappropriately touching a woman inside the bank went viral on social media. People speculated that the woman was also employed at the bank.
People called for him to be fired from the bank.
The Islamabad DC said that they are forensically analysing the video to ascertain whether it is recent.
ISLAMABAD: In a bid to control the spread of Coronavirus pandemic cases, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) on Friday directed public and private companies to implement a 50% “work from home” policy.
The NCOC also banned indoor weddings and allowed upto 1,000 guests in outdoor functions. The notification said major cities with a high positivity rate and higher disease spread potential will be asked to enforce the ban.
The rule pertains to Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Multan, Hyderabad, Gilgit, Muzzafarabad, Mirpur, Peshawar, Quetta, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur, and Abbottabad.
The decision will go into effect from November 20, 2020.
Furthermore, beginning tomorrow (November 7), the NCOC has directed the implementation of a “Gilgit-Baltistan model” whereby face masks must be made compulsory in the aforementioned cities.
In GB, failure to do so results in a penalty of Rs100 and three masks issued on the spot. Authorities have been advised to issue similar penalties in these locations.
In areas identified as hotspots, relatively broader smart lockdowns have also been recommended.
Last month, NCOC said that it has observed wedding halls and indoor restaurants to be “high contributors” to the spread of the contagious disease.
Following the observation, on October 9, the body issued new guidelines for wedding halls, saying that it is officially restricting the number of guests and limiting functions till 10pm.
For indoor events, a maximum of 300 guests has been allowed and for outdoor events, a maximum of 500 guests, with the gathering to only last 2 hours.
The NCOC has already warned business owners to shut down before or by 10pm, in view of the rising positivity ratio in major cities of Pakistan.
ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has fined 14,489 amateur drivers during the ongoing year for driving cars and motorbikes without licenses.
According to a police spokesman, traffic police are also endeavoring to maintain an exemplary traffic system in the city and check those involved in negligence on roads.
He told that 14,489 were fined for driving bikes and cars without driving licenses during the ongoing year and the sole purpose was to maintain traffic discipline in the city.
The spokesman further said that fine tickets are issued not as a punitive measure but the purpose is to make citizens more law-abiding to ensure safety to their own lives on roads.
He informed that ITP is also conducting awareness campaigns to educate road users which has the focus to curb amateur driving, one-wheeling, careless driving, risky stunts on roads, and ensuring lane discipline.
Meanwhile, the SSP (Traffic) Farrukh Rasheed said that ITP personnel will continue their efforts for ensuring a safe road environment in the Capital and urged the people to cooperate with them to make this city accident-free.
ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has been directed to ensure smooth flow of traffic at IJP road, Srinagar (Kashmir) Highway and Islamabad expressway and take strict action against those creating inconvenience for the road users.
While reviewing the overall performance report about traffic related issues here on Wednesday, Senior Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Farrukh Rasheed directed to depute special squads at Islamabad Expressway, IJP road, Srinagar (Kashmir) Highway and other important boulevards to ensure smooth traffic flow there.
He said that complaints about any inconvenience to people can be lodged with ITP Helpline 1915 or 051-9261992-93 which would be addressed promptly.
Following the directions of IGP Islamabad Muhammad Aamir Zulfiqar, the SSP (Traffic) said that ITP is taking steps to ensure safe road environment in the city with maximum convenience to road users.
He said that special squads have been constituted to ensure implementation on traffic rules and also smooth traffic flow in busy areas.
He further directed to ensure traffic discipline in the city and take action against violators without any discrimination.
Meanwhile, the spokesman said that 5,74,539 vehicles and bikes have been fined during the current year for hampering smooth flow of traffic and involvement in over-charging, over-loading and misbehaving with passengers.
He said that 1,37,647 trucks, 33,395 pick-ups, 67,365 wagons and 54,029 cabs were fined during the period over these violations.
The police spokesman said that efforts are underway to ensure smooth traffic flow in the city and cooperation of road users in crucial to overcome traffic related problems.
ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad motorway police foiled an attempt to smuggle firearms to Lahore and seized 16 rifles and 48 pistols.
The suspects opened fire at the personnel when they were pursued, according to a motorway police spokesperson. Upon retaliation, the suspects abandoned their car near Chakri and ran away, he added.
One suspect was arrested while the other managed to flee. Raids are being conducted to arrest him.
They were smuggling firearms to Lahore from Peshawar.

Exemptions to the lockdown include essential services and supplies, such as pharmacies, patients requiring medical aid, rationing, water supply and emergencies.
The lockdown went into effect from 10am on Saturday. People have been advised to make arrangements for food and medicine.
These streets have been cordoned off by the Islamabad police.
Pakistan has been reporting higher coronavirus cases for the past few days. Its daily case numbers cross the 1,000-mark on Friday for the first time in three months. Islamabad has reported 19,818 cases so far and Pakistan has reported a total of 332,993, as of Saturday.

ISLAMABAD: Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the Cabinet has approved a Rs194 million technical supplementary grant for a survey of Pakistan’s coastal areas.
The funds were approved during a meeting held in Islamabad with Advidor to Prime Minister on Finance Dr Hafeez Shaikh in the chair.
The development of Pakistan’s coastal areas has recently become a hot topic as the government set up the controversial Pakistan Islands Development Authority.
The authority was created through a September 2, 2020 ordinance, without the approval of the Senate or National Assembly as they were not in session as “the president of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan is satisfied that circumstance exist which render it necessary to take immediate action.”
The authority has been tasked with surveying Pakistan’s islands for the purpose of development. However, the authority is a federal body and some islands belong to the province of Sindh.
The matter has also been taken to court by several people, who argue that the development is illegal and will affect the mangroves.
During the last Sindh High Court hearing, the federal government vowed that it would not begin development without taking the Sindh government on board.
The provincial government and PPP Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari have said they will oppose any federal government attempts to take over Sindh’s islands.
In other developments, the ECC also approved a one-year extension in the purchase of 104 megawatts of electricity from Iran and passed the issue of a waiver of Rs12 billion in late charges for Afghan cargo containers stuck at Karachi’s ports over to a committee.
