BIRMINGHAM: The Kashmir Media Award ceremony, hosted by Tehreek-e-Kashmir TeK United Kingdom (UK), took place in Birmingham, celebrating the exceptional contributions of journalists covering the Kashmir region.
While the chief guest and editor-in-chief of Daily Kashmir Post, Altaf Ahmad Bhat, was unable to attend the event due to illness, the ceremony remained a significant gathering of media professionals.
In the absence of the chief guest, President of TeK UK, Fahim Kayani, took the stage and presented awards to distinguished UK-based journalists who have been instrumental in reporting on Kashmir-related issues.
The honorees included Nasar Raja from Samaa News, Muhammad Asif Baratlavi from AMB News, Abid Kazami from 92 News, Irfan Tahir from World News TV, Zahid Khattak from Dunya News, Adil Azam from Ary News, Ibrar Mughal from Geo News, and Basharat Chaudhry from JK News.
Altaf Ahmed Bhat in a statement issued here in Islamabad today, appreciated Fahim Kayani, President Tehreek-e-kashmir UK for organising the Media Award ceremony on a regular basis to recognize the efforts of Journalists who are tirelessly working for the Kashmir cause.
He also expressed remorse on not being able to join this prestigious event due to illness.
Altaf Ahmed Bhat also expressed heartfelt and glorious tributes on the first death anniversary of the esteemed religious scholar, political and social leader, the late Maulana Muhammad Abbas Ansari.
Chairman JKSM Bhat highlighted the enduring legacy of Maulana Abbas Ansari and his unwavering commitment to the principles he held dear.
He is remembered as a distinguished religious scholar and orator for his tireless efforts in advocating unity among Muslims in Kashmir, fostering communal harmony, and promoting mutual brotherhood.
Maulana Abbas Ansari’s contributions will forever be etched in the collective memory of the people of Kashmir, and his loss leaves an irreplaceable void in the region’s leadership, Bhat added.
Altaf Ahmed Bhat also took this moment to pay homage to a constellation of towering Kashmiri leaders who sacrificed their lives for the birthright of Kashmiris – Freedom.
This solemn tribute extends to Shaheed Sheikh Aziz, Shaheed Abdul Ghani Lone, Shaheed Syed Ali Geelani, Shaheed Ashraf Sehrai, Shaheed Moulana Farooq, Shaheed Shams ul Haq, and countless other brave souls who dedicated their lives to the Kashmiri cause.
In a strong condemnation of the recent actions by Indian occupation forces, Chairman JKSM vehemently deplores the tragic loss of 17 Kashmiri youth in the month of October 2023.
Such incidents further underscore the urgent need for a peaceful resolution and an end to the violence that continues to afflict the Kashmiris.
