It is once again getting suffocating. Political scenario is gradually inching towards the muddy waters. Dirty politics is once more making the headlines. The self-claimed gurus of main stream media are out with their blazing guns. The infighting is on the increase. The skies are getting murky.
International borders are heating up. India has increased the cease fire violations. As per Times of India, on last Friday, the Indian Army was firing 105 mm Field Guns and 155 mm Bofors Howitzers .
The mantra is same old, “At least one terror launch pad, among other targets, was completely destroyed”. The newspaper claims that Indian Army has also carried out operations using Special Forces. Now, this is serious.
There was a bomb blast in Chaman few days back killing three soldiers . Pakistan Army has also carried out IBOs in DI Khan and ex FATA area. This has typical Afghan intelligence service NDS signature activity. Everybody knows the connection between NDS and Indian R&AW.
World is grappling with COVID – 19. Pakistan is no exception. In many ways, Pakistan Government has done much better than the developed countries like UK, Italy, USA, etc. A lot still needs to be done in UK or USA.
In UK, a letter from the 10 Downing Street to the citizens, warning, cautioning and advising as how to cope up with the pandemic, is the only “help” extended. In USA, not a cent has been paid out of the $1200 per needy person announced as part of the two trillion dollars relief.
In UK, however, they have system in place. My son, Qamber Ali, wrote to me, “The issue with Pakistan is that there is no “Universal Credit” for the jobless. Here in the UK for anyone who has lost their job already have the facility to register at a job centre and apply for benefits. These benefits include weekly stipend, house rent, housing if personal residence is not available and provide facilities like councilling etc. In Pakistan as per Gallop survey more than 90% of enterprises in Pakistan are SME. If anything Pakistan needs to take a page out of UK government’s book to provide help and support to these businesses because a high percentage of export comes from these SME businesses as well”.
Imran Khan and his government must be appreciated for their efforts to alleviate the problems of the very poor. ‘Ehsas’ program has been successfully launched. The philanthropists are also trying to put in their share of help. But, it is not enough.
In these dire moments, the fiasco has been created by the issuance of Commission Report on Sugar and Wheat. Suddenly, the focus of the media has shifted to this potential water shed. None of them has bothered to highlight the ongoing Indian on slaught on our civilian population in Azad Kashmir and the atrocities being metted out to Kashmiries in the Indian Occupied Kashmir, specially since 5th August 2019.
Any destabilization of the government at this juncture will be extremely dangerous for the sovereignty of our nation. Army is on duty in the towns, as called by the Provincial governments under Article 245, helping people.
At the same time, the situation on borders is not conducive. It warrants high degree of responsibility to be displayed by all, specially the political parties. Any nefarious designs by the non- state actors must be thwarted with impunity. Vigilance be the hall mark.
Government must also refrain from opening unwarranted fronts. Strategic goals must remain in sight. Stability is the requirement. Polices must be formulated now to overcome the economic challenges that lie ahead. Let it be known to the general public. The post COVID-19 pandemic era is going to be entirely different from the world today.
