The uncalled for aggression

Three Pakistani soldiers laid their lives while protecting the motherland in Rakhchakri, Rawalakot sector along the Line of Control (LOC) on Monday night.

The casualties — as it always had been — were due to unprovoked fire from the Indian side. Those martyred include Subedar Muhammad Riaz, resident of Jhang; Lance Havaldar Aziz Ullah from Noshero Feroz (Sindh) and Sepoy Shahid Mansib from Abbotabbad while one soldier got injured due to the Indian firing. Pakistan army responded effectively and there were reports of casualties on the Indian side also.

Advertisment

A day earlier, an elderly villager was killed while two women and three young boys were injured in Azad Jammu and Kashmir in unrelenting ceasefire violations by Indian troops across the LOC. People in AJK along the LOC had been experiencing heavy shelling since weeks as the election in Indian states are approaching fast.

Ceasefire violations along the LOC have been occurring regularly as Indian incumbent government seems hell bent to create a situation along the LOC and take political advantage of the same with setting victory in the upcoming general elections through anti-Pakistan rhetoric as the prime objective. The Indian government believes that anti-Pakistan rhetoric at this point of time may be an additional advantage to win hearts and minds of Indian voters.

The Modi-led government had suffered a setback in end February when Pakistani Air Force downed two of its warplanes which attempted to violate country’s airspace and also captured an Indian pilot. The Indian government is still licking its wounds and finds no way to get out of the shame it earned as a result of the uncalled for aggression. The violations from the Indian side don’t stop here. It has been frequently resorting to the unprovoked firing along the LOC, may be to give its voters a message that the Modi government has been taking a strong stance against the neighbouring country.

The Indian mindset may help its incumbent government win support of the voters but it will happen at the cost of regional peace. The recent tensions between Pakistan and India had been touching the red signal albeit the world super powers and some of the friend countries intervened and played their role to de-escalate the situation. It seems that Pakistani goodwill gesture of releasing Indian captured pilot also did not work on the Indian rigid mindset. They seem hell bent to destroy peace in the region so as to possibly win the upcoming general elections and peace seems to be a secondary thing in their mindset.
