COVID-19: Pakistan reports 5,480 new cases, 151 deaths in 24 hours

ISLAMABAD: Coronavirus third wave is continuing to play havoc in the country as Pakistan reported 5,480 new cases of the virus infection and 151 new deaths during last 24 hours.

Federal and Provincial governments are making efforts to impose restrictions of closure of markets and banning commercial activities but the infections and fatalities by COVID-19 are surging.

Government has deployed the Army personnel count the country to ensure strict implementation on Coronavirus standard operating procedures (SOPs) and is looking to impose massive lockdown in big cities with over 13 per cent fatalities percentage.

According to a notification stating that Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and the Islamabad Capital Territory will (in accordance with their needs) seek the help of the Pakistan Army to strictly implement the coronavirus SOPs. The orders, however, do not apply to Sindh.

The authorities have reported 151 deaths in last 24 hours while the virus as 5,480 more people were tested positive for the Virus that took the toll to 815,711 cases. During last 24 hours 151 new deaths were reported that took the toll of fatalities to 17,680.

According to latest figures displayed on National Coronavirus Dashboard of the National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), the NCOC confirmed the death of 151 more people during last 24 hours besides reported that 5,480 persons tested positive for COVID-19.

Punjab have been declared worst hit province during this month as positivity rate of the province was witnessed over 11 per cent in some parts while the toll of infections reached to 298,818 in the province. Sindh has reported 281,385 overall coronavirus epidemic infections, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Punjab has overtaken Sindh in most number of casualties.

The new cases have taken the national tally of positive cases to 815,711 with 298,818 coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Punjab, 281,385 in Sindh, 116,523 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 22,118 in Balochistan, 74,640 in Islamabad, 16,931 in Azad Kashmir and 5,296 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Nationwide tally of fatalities remains 17,680 out of that 8,327 individuals have lost their lives to the epidemic in Punjab, 4,629 in Sindh, 3,238 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 233 in Balochistan, 677 in Islamabad, 470 in Azad Kashmir and 106 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Pakistan has so far conducted 11,739,027 coronavirus tests and 57,013 in the last 24 hours. 708,193 coronavirus patients have recovered in the country whereas 5,263 patients are in critical condition.
