ISLAMABAD: Use of turmeric milk as drink at night can offer a lot of significant benefits for gut health, according to some nutrition experts.

The drink, often called as ‘golden milk’, is believed to be the number one evening drink for maintaining a healthy digestive system.

Turmeric milk plays a key role in reducing inflammation of the intestinal lining, which is being attributed to curcumin, a compound in turmeric known for its anti-inflammatory properties.

Some studies suggest that regular consumption may provide protection against autoimmune conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).

The drink may also support bowel motility, especially when ginger is added. Ginger contains active compounds such as gingerol and shogaol, which help stimulate the production of digestive enzymes and relieve gastrointestinal spasms.

Turmeric milk may ease constipation and help prevent it, particularly in individuals with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). Curcumin is thought to have mild laxative effects, which can assist in regulating bowel movements.
